Above: Call of the Wren (2024)
from ‘Ode to a Nightingale’:
Darkling I listen; and, for many a time
I have been half in love with easeful Death,
Call'd him soft names in many a mused rhyme,
To take into the air my quiet breath
-- John Keats
With bird song at its heart, this prokect explores how Different materials (clay, fabric, found materials, sound and projection) can create both 2D and 3D forms which play with the concept of ‘synaesthesia’ and the cross-connection of different sensory experiences — especially sound, sight and touch — in order to invite audiences to imagine how it feels to experience the world from a different perspective. Simultaneously (and somewhat grotesquely) raw data and statistics create shapes reflecting biodiversity loss.
